Today is Dia de los Maestros (Day of the Teachers) in Guatemala. We are so grateful for our wonderful staff of three teachers at La Puerta Abierta. Today we celebrate and honor Wendy, Candelaria and Chonita!

- I arrived in rural Guatemala nearly ten years ago while working with an educational program with the Peace Corps. While living abroad, not only did I fall in love with Guatemala, but I also met and fell in love with my husband. We've planted roots in Guatemala where we live with our 2 rambunctious daughters and our two equally rambunctious dogs. I co-founded La Puerta Abierta Children's Learning Center(www.opendooratitlan.org) in 2006 and recently opened La Puerta Abierta Preschool. I continue to feel blessed to collaborate with the children and teachers of Guatemala and to have work that is truly gratifying.
